Well, it’s now Friday, August 7, 2026. The last blog post I wrote about travel was Mammoth Cave, Mother, and Bourbon, which occurred in September of 2023 (almost 3 year ago – how did that happen?). And, like several other recent ‘Travel Posts’ that one was mostly a placeholder with a very brief summary. Sigh. I really need to do better.
In case you’re wondering, yes, we’ve had several trips since then: our annual trek to Myrtle Beach, SC, in October 2023; Niagara Falls in November 2023 for our anniversary; Augusta, GA, in May 2025 for my mother’s funeral; Corning & Watkins Glen, NY, in September 2025; and then, again, our annual trek to Myrtle Beach in October 2025. And that doesn’t include the several (many?) trips to Franklin, TN, between July 2021 (when mother had recently moved into an assisted living facility) and, if I recall correctly, August 2024 which was the last time we saw her alive (she was living in a memory care facility at that time).
I know I’ve missed a few other trips as well, not the least of which was our trip to take our oldest grandchild to Hawaii in August 2021. How did I miss writing at least a placeholder summary about that? Good grief.
I’m really going to try to do better in the future, and I hope to go back and add the ones I know I’ve missed. I also should design and code a page where I can show container panes (like those on the front page) for each post in a specific top-level category. Yeah, that’ll happen real soon now…
Upcoming travel includes two, short, near-term road trips: Williamsburg, VA and Busch Gardens later this month; then Kent Island, MD, in September. We’ll also be making the annual trek to Myrtle Beach, SC, in October. Finally, we’re planning what promises to be a fun trip to Canada (eh?) next June.
